The Via Davia Story
Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Davia discovered her love for vintage, as a teen in the 1980s, while searching thrift stores for well-worn jeans. She found among the denim, beautiful purses, dresses, jewelry and so much more. Over the years, Davia began to rely on her unique finds to supplement her wardrobe and develop her signature style.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1990 and working as a make-up artist and hair colorist, Davia realized that her true passion was in fashion, collectively, and particularly in vintage clothing and accessories. When Davia and Earl met in 1998, they realized that among the many things they had in common was an appreciation for timeless design. That appreciation turned into a passion. They spent practically every weekend scouring flea markets and thrift stores. At Earl’s suggestion, they rented a space at one of their favorite weekend hangs, The Melrose Trading Post (MTP). The plan was to sell off some of Davia’s growing collection. However, the tremendous success of that day was clear evidence that they were at the start of something good.
Earl and Davia started Via Davia Vintage in 1999, selling at the MTP and the Rose Bowl flea markets. After getting married and starting a family, they realized they needed a more personal space to sell their collection. In 2003, they converted the garage of their home in Baldwin Hills, CA into a boutique. The space, which became known to many as simply "The Garage", would provide them with a place to do business and raise their two kids comfortably. They offered a private shopping experience by having the boutique be by appointment only. The subsequent years were spent building a reputation as serious collectors and a source of inspiration for major design houses, high-end vintage retailers, filmmakers, stylists, musicians and more. Via Davia Vintage has exhibited their collection at venues such as A Current Affair LA, Pickwick Vintage Show, Parachute Market, Inspiration LA, and TENOVERSIX LA to name a few.
The Hunters now reside in Van Nuys, CA where "The Garage" has been upgraded to "The Backhouse", still offering private appointments. As Via Davia Vintage evolves, the Hunters have decided that their collection should also be made available to a wider audience. Thus, viadaviavintage.com was born.
